Something worth updating about
Well, got my first car all on my own. I purchased a 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R today. But first, let's recap.
Weekend: Didnt do much at all. Went home and filled out an application at a garage and I should get the job to run the register.....and hopefully I will get to use the garage for my own sick purposes. At home I read through the green tab and noticed a 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R for sale for a whooping 950 bucks. Sunday night I called and found out it had 160 thousand miles and the common problem of popping out of 5th gear. Arranged a meeting time at a grocery store so I could follow and see the car.
Today, after a whole 3 or 4 hours of sleep, I woke up and went to work for Megan. After that went to class, then took a nice nap till 4:30 when Nate woke me up to go after the car. The night before we had talked about what would be needed to make it fast and that I will sell it to him after the summer hopefully. On the way down we were both afraid of running into a total shitbox. At the grocery store a guy pulled up in a last gen Pontiac Fiero GT asking if we were there to see the sentra. Of course, we said yes and headed off to the great state of Ohio (sarcasm/10). After a long detoured trip on old country roads, we reached his residence and I was amazed. The only things wrong were rust in the typical spots and paint was fading. Interior was immaculate, I only noticed wear on the leather shift knob. The car seemed snug too me at first, but then I realized it wasn't all the way back with the seats. He opened up the hood and I was amazed. Headers (which lead to custom 2.5 inch exhaust), Intake, Strut Tower Bar........*drool*. After talking a little we found out that he really didn't want to part with the car but was forced too because his other car was a 240SX that had a sylvia transplant O_O (he has owned 6 240's so far, let alone 2 RX-7's). After talking more, we went on a test drive. My God, I thank you for putting cars this great on the road. He really knew how to drive it (showed us the true benefits of an LSD through the turns) and I think it was his "goodbye run" with the car (easily did 60 and I didn't see him touch 3rd gear, shows how solid the SR20DE motor is even with 160k on the odometer). Nate drove it back and was also amazed. Turns out that I will be the third owner of the car, the other two owners have kept great mechanical care of this fine car. We had fun bashing hondas and saturns. He also said he had turbo parts for the car, so damn tempting......but I don't know if I will go for it yet, depends on the price first (initially offered it at 200-300 bucks). It came up that he was a "good ole boy" when it came to cars, then he got into the import scene and doesn't see why others will not do the same (sidenote, hates his ex-wife who happened to take the car to the track once or twice). After all was done, he said "Well, atleast I can take some comfort in knowing that I am selling it to people who I know will take care of this car and know what they are doing." When I was pulling out he said he was going to give me his e-mail so he could get some ideas on what was happening with the car in the future. I did have to battle my mom a little when it came to putting the money in the account at first, but we talked later and she was fine with it. Either thursday or friday we are taking the car back to my house. I have to call the DMV and figure out what I need to do to get a 1 day pass. I'm already on the ball and getting stuff arrainged, like getting the thing re-sprayed and rust removed.....still trying to find someone to do the trans, might have to talk to a shop.
So in short, days like this make me feel good. It makes me happy that good things like this happen to good people.........and not just to assholes that use their life savings to buy a car that is already complete, since they are too damn good to get their hands dirty on what they brag about.
